The Beatles "Butcher" album
This is a third state mono pressing of Yesterday and Today with the notorious Butcher cover fully exposed beneath its once-pasted Trunk disguise. Originally released in 1966 by Capitol Records, the album caused a full-blown PR panic thanks to its surreal, macabre photo of the Fab Four grinning in butcher smocks, draped with raw meat and dismembered baby dolls. It was meant to be a dark satire, but it landed like a raw steak at a vegetarian potluck.
Capitol hastily covered up the original image with a new, safer one (the "Trunk" cover). What you’re seeing is the aftermath of a careful peeling job—the Trunk image has been removed to reveal the forbidden fruit underneath.
The cover shows some wear, but the image remains bold and unapologetic. Spine wear, edge flaking, and surface scuffing are all present (especially along the top seam), but that’s par for the course with these. The mono LP with the Capitol rainbow label is included, adding to the package’s display appeal and collectibility.
1st state: unpeeled original Butcher cover.
2nd state: Trunk cover pasted over the original Butcher cover.
3rd state: peeled Trunk cover, revealing the original Butcher cover underneath (this cover).
